會議緣起

　　人類社會的組成，緣於男女攜手，共組家庭。然生理結構的不同，使在體能上，男多健碩、女多柔弱。基於求生、分工的需要，狩獵、耕作由男人負責；繁衍、持家則由女人承擔。也因此，造就了男尊女卑的父系社會。在此背景下，女人多被要求溫柔體貼，逆來順受。「女子無才便是德」更成了思想主流。男人則被要求勇猛好鬥，以牙還牙，「男兒有淚不輕彈」更成了男性情緒無法自在表達的罩門。

　　隨著科技的發展，「體魄的強弱」不再是唯一的求生準則。而教育的普及與女權的抬頭，更突顯「兩性平權」的重要。然而，長久以來，社會對性別的刻板印象與期望，往往導致婦女過早自我設限，並怯於追求卓越。為鼓勵婦女打破性別藩籬，追求自我，發揮潛能，「行政院國家科學委員會」於民國九十七年責成陽明大學於台北舉辦「第一屆全球女性科學家會議」、民國九十八年責成高雄醫學大學於高雄舉辦「第二屆國際女性科學家會議」。第一屆會議除成功地展現台灣對「兩性平權」的重視與努力外，更邀請傑出女性科學家現身說法，鼓勵年輕女學生投入科學領域。第二屆會議除勉勵已從事科研的年輕女學者堅守崗位，貢獻所學外，也針對如何激發高中女生對科研的興趣與熱情，進行探討。

　　近年來，台灣在聯合國的「性別評比指數」與「性別權力測度」均居亞洲第二名；與先進國家相較，毫不遜色。在繼往-延續先前兩屆會議的豐碩成果，在開來-營造一個沒有性別歧視、兩性皆能發揮潛能的和諧環境，中國醫藥大學規劃了「2010全國女性科學家會議」，並以「築夢/Dream、許諾/Commitment、實踐/Accomplishment」為本屆會議的主軸。我們以為，婦女在成長過程中，對不可知的未來，應滿懷憧憬，勇於「築夢」。之後，以教育的啟迪與訓練，審視自我，培養專長，「許諾」自己一個能全力以赴、有願景的將來(追夢)。最後，藉職場的挑戰與磨鍊，強化韌性、激發潛能，來「實踐」美夢，成就一生的圓融、圓滿(圓夢)。

　　To encourage women to break sexual barriers and pursue self-fulfillment, China Medical University proposes a conference held in December, 2010 for woman scientists. Two separate programs--Division A and Division B--have been designed and will be held simultaneously. Division A is intended mainly for female high school students nationwide, but is also available for male students to attend. Division B is for junior female professionals, such as college and graduate students and women who have newly entered the fields of biology, engineering, science, science education and humanities. Aspiration, commitment and accomplishment are three major themes in this Conference. Women are urged to dream of their future. Then they are encouraged to be educated and trained, to inspire themselves from within, and to develop their own expertise for a demanding career. Finally, through coping with the challenges and obstacles encountered in the workplace, women will be empowered and equipped with increased ability and potential to accomplish their professional goals.
